Septic regulations were adopted in 1996. All septic systems must be permitted according to McDonald County Septic Ordinance. All repairs to existing systems must also have a permit from the health department. Permits are available at the health department. Environmentalists provide food service inspections according to the McDonald County Food Service Sanitation Ordinance. 

Water testing kits are available at the health department for well water. Samples can be tested for bacteria and mineral content. 

Environmental staff inspect lodging establishments yearly according to the state lodging requirements.
